Did you know that the University of Oxford is divided into 39 separate colleges? Each college functions as a micro-community with its own dorms, formal hall, library, chapel, and buttery; similarly, each student body has its own personality and quirks. On our third day in Oxford, my travel companion and I took the time to visit some of Oxford’s beautiful college campuses. We enjoyed seeing students sunbathing in the quads while hard at work during the lead-up to final exams.

The Covered Market

To take a break from the intense sunshine (sunny days can be quite a rarity for Oxford, I might add), we ducked into Oxford’s famous covered market, which has been serving customers since 1774. The market boasts a variety of shopping and food options, including a lovely milkshake stand, a homemade soap store, and a Thai buffet!

The Ivy

We concluded our day with a dinner at The Ivy, a sophisticated food and cocktail spot on Oxford’s High Street with a colorful Art-Deco vibe.
